With the development of centrepin reels, anglers found they were able to achieve deadly results float fishing in rivers and streams.  The basic centrepin function has not changed since the original was developed over a century ago.  The line feeds off a centrepin reel in a smooth and fluid fashion, allowing for an incredibly natural presentation.  RAVEN® has advanced centrepin reel design by using modern materials, quality components and sophisticated engineering.  To ensure even better performance, all RAVEN® reels run on a pair of high quality stainless steel bearings to deliver an ultra smooth, low inertia spin.

Selecting Gear
Weight: Lightweight spools generally perform better with lighter set-ups, on smaller waters and for Wallis Casting.  Heavier spools handle larger setups and big water more efficiently.

  • Does it fit comfortably in your hand?
Will it balance properly with your float rod?
Are all edges polished smooth to avoid possible line damage?
Is it easy to maintain? Avoid press fit bearings and parts, which are difficult to remove and reassemble.
Has it been machined to the proper tolerances? The gap between the spool and the back plate should be small enough that line does not easily fall in and large enough to prevent fine debris from binding the spool.
